Creative Computing students visit Dubai Design Week | 9 Nov 2023

The prestigious Dubai Design Week returns for its ninth edition taking place from 7-12 November 2023 in Dubai Design District (d3), with designers from across the globe coming together to exchange ideas and demonstrate the positive impact that can be fostered through design. The festival hosts its most diverse programme of events and activities, including over 25 large-scale installations, exhibitions, pop-ups, talks, workshops and a weekend market that gathers and retails the best of local artisanal products, including fashion, jewellery, homeware, beauty and more; alongside a wide range of meaningful activities.

For the fresh students of Creative Computing, beyond the confines of code and algorithms; exposure to the diverse and innovative world of visual arts serves as a catalyst for inspiration, creativity, and interdisciplinary learning. Art and design exhibitions offer a rich tapestry of aesthetic experiences, exposing students to various forms of expression, design philosophies, and cutting-edge trends. For creative computing students, this exposure provides a valuable opportunity to bridge the gap between technology and creativity. Witnessing the fusion of artistic concepts with possible technological implementations not only broadens their perspectives but also stimulates fresh ideas for their own projects, now and in future.

Interacting with artists, designers, and fellow enthusiasts during such exhibitions also encourages networking and collaboration. Creative computing is inherently collaborative, and these events provide a platform for students to engage with professionals from different disciplines, fostering interdisciplinary connections that can lead to innovative projects and partnerships.

The importance of attending art and design exhibitions lies in the symbiotic relationship between technology and creativity. By immersing themselves in the visual and conceptual diversity of the art world, undergraduate creative computing students enhance their ability to think critically, problem-solve creatively, and infuse their technological endeavours with a deeper sense of design aesthetic and awareness.

This experiential learning not only enriches their academic journey but also equips them with a well-rounded skill set essential for navigating the dynamic and interdisciplinary landscape of creative computing.
